Gordian Knot

I dream of you now,

What's that mean?

Is this the dead-end wall that can’t be seen,

Until

Impact the sudden turn with no brakes to lessen the head on collision.

The six-car pileup with your final gasps from the respirator at the local hospital

The end without a beginning.

I sleep in the kaleidoscope of dreams

Blindly walking down the rabbit hole of infinite tomorrows

Caught staring at sandcastles built on air,

Only to watch them be swept away

With reality’s passing thought.

Your mind has sharp edges

A rubrics cube wrapped in barbed wire;

I would leave my hands to bleed

To glimpse what lies beneath.

A box wraps my chest when you come near

Filling my lungs with molasses

Leaving me gasping for air and

Grabbing at another’s words to

Fill the empty spaces that stand between us.

A dove with a lioness lurking under the surface;

Honey and vinegar on the tongue,

You’re the meal that leaves you starving for more

When the last bite is consumed.

Would I beat my fists raw;

Do I chase wild cats into the darkness,

Is their a you beyond my own shadow puppets or

Would you dissipate with the mist of the morning light.

I would offer what's left,

Pry it free with my fingertips and

Drop it at your feet.

I have switched running from ghosts

To chasing phantoms,

Forever wandering on M. C. Escher’s stairs.
